See the Viereck-Roos text of Appian, Ib. 66-67, pp. 111, 113, and notes. Schulten (NJ 39 [1917] 222 and note) distinguishes between a Quinctius who held command in Hither Spain and was succeeded by Metellus (see above, Consuls) and Quintus, who is Q. Pompeius, succeeded Fabius Aemilianus, and was followed by Fabius Servilianus (Cos. 142). See however Wilsdorf, Leipzig. Stud. 1 (1878) 101f., accepted by D.- G. 4.313, no. 4; Wehrmann, FP 9. Warred with Viriathus (App. Ib. 66). (Broughton MRR I)
Praetor procos. in Hisp. Ult., 143. See MRR 1.472, 474, note 3. Appian's phrase (Ib. 66, #) strongly favors placing Quinctius (Crispinus?) in command of Hisp. Ult., instead of Hisp. Cit., as successor in 143 of Fabius Maximus Aemilianus and succeeded in 142 by Fabius Maximus Servilianus (MRR 1.477-478). See Astin, Historia 13, 1964, 251-254; R. C. Knapp, Aspects 196, 201-203.
