Career

  • Praetor 101 city? (Brennan 2000) Expand
    • Gell. 13.20.12. See 94, Aediles and note 4; and 91, Promagistrates. (Broughton MRR II)
    • Praetor, uncertain date. Gellius (13.20.12), our only source, states that this son of the consul of 118 (10) was curule aedile and praetor, and died in Gallia Narbonensis, but makes no mention of a provincial command. Dates are uncertain, but twenty-five to thirty years after the father's consulship is not unreasonable, and his offices probably precede the Social War (MRR 2.13, 18, and 22). See Gabba, Republican Rome 66, no. 92 (Praetor 78?); Badian, Mel. Piganiol 906-918. (Broughton MRR III)

  • Aedilis Curulis before 93 (Broughton MRR II) Expand
    • 2 All dates in the career of this Cato remain uncertain. It is probable that he died before the Social war while governor of Transalpine Gaul. The latest date for his aedileship would be 94, and for his praetorship, 92. (Broughton MRR II)

    • Governor of Narbonese Gaul, where he died (Gell. 13.20.12; see 94, Aediles, and note 3). See D.-G. 5.162, no. 18. (Broughton MRR II)
