5 On the identification of Lentulus, see RE. Mommsen (SPAW 1892. 845) distinguished him from the Praetor named in Cic. Arch. 9 (after 89 B.C.) and doubted that he should be dated in this period, but Münzer (RE) and the editors of SIG³ have identified the first name on the inscription as that of Sulla. The date is about 82 B.C., since Sulla is not termed Dictator and Murena has been acclaimed Imperator (see below). (Broughton MRR II)
