Sall. Hist. 1.55.22M; see 80, Promagistrates. (Broughton MRR II)
Pr. 81. See MRR 2.76, and 81. Probably proconsul in Hisp. Ult. in 80 (Plut. Sert. 12.3 [#]), where he was defeated by Sertorius (Sall. Hist. 1.108M; Plut. loc. cit.) and called for help from M. Domitius Calvinus (44), proconsul in Hisp. Cit. (Sall. Hist. 1.111M). P. O. Spann, doubting his praetorship and the nature of his command, suggests that he was a legatus pro praetore left in charge (Sertorius 72-73), but to Chr. Konrad he was a praetorian governor (Sertorius 114, cf. 216f.). See now B. Bischoff and H. Bloch, ?Das Wiener Fragment der Historiae des Sallust,? WS, n.s. 13, 1979, 116-129; Wiseman, NM 234, no. 184.[93x]
