CAES2063 M. Caesius? (9) M. f. Pom.

Career

  • Praetor 75 (Broughton MRR III) Expand
    • Pr. before 75. Badian (Historia 12, 1963, 135-136) makes the attractive suggestion that this name, spelled # in SIG(3) 747, stands, not for M. Cassius M. f. Pompt. as in MRR 2.114, but for M. Caesius (#) (9), praetor in 75 (MRR 2.96), along with C. Licinius Sacerdos (154), who is with him in the inscription. See J. M. Cody, who defends the reading M. Cas(s)ius M. f. Pompt., using an inscription on the Augustan gem, M. Cas. M. f. Longini, and suggests that Pomptina was the tribe of the Cassii Longini (CPh 64, 1969, 177-178; cf. L. R. Taylor, VDRR 279).[44x] (Broughton MRR III)
