Pr. 73, propr.? 72. If the notice of his death in Schol. Gron. p. 224St (in 72 or 71) is incorrect, and there is no hint in Cic. Verr. 2.2.37 and 2.4.42 (or in other evidence, MRR 2.109 and 117) that he had been killed, it becomes possible to identify him with the base-born friend of Crassus (Cic. Brut. 242), and the potential candidate for the consulship of 58 (RE no. 8), who had in any case held a praetorship before 63 (MRR 2.161).
