Att. 5.11.4; 6.3.1, and 4.1, and 7.2; Fam. 5.19-21; 2.17.4; 13.26.1; 16.4.3). # Canini Sallustius (2A.1913 and 1919) Served as a Proquaestor in 50 under Bibulus in Syria (Cic. Fam. 2.17). In RE he is identified, probably erroneously, with Sallust the historian. (Broughton MRR II)
    • 2 Orelli read the praenomen as Cn., Mommsen as C. (RF 2.434f.) and identified him with the historian. It is improbable that the historian, who was a strong supporter of Caesar, would have served under Bibulus, or that, being an ex-Tribune, he would have taken the title of Legatus pro qaestore.
