Career

  • Monetalis 63 (RRC) Expand
    • Monetalis. The date of his office as monetalis, previously taken to be 52 (MRR 2.435, and Index, 544) is put by Crawford in 63-62 (RRC 1.440, no. 413; cf. . C. D. Hamilton, TAPhA 100, 1969, 198). Possibly C. Cassius (59), the tyrannicide (Sumner, quoted by Badian, Phoenix 25, 1971, 141-142, note 37).[51x] (Broughton MRR III)
    • ref. 413 (RRC)
  • Proconsul 48 Achaea (Broughton MRR II) Expand
    • Served under Caesar as Proconsul (CIL 12.2.774-ILS 39). He occupied Thessaly but Metellus Scipio compelled him to retreat and join Calvisius Sabinus in Aetolia (Caes. BC 3.34-35, and 56; Dio 41.51.2). (Broughton MRR II)
  • Tribunus Plebis 44 (Broughton MRR II) Expand
    • He was excluded, like Cannutius and Carfulenus, from the Senate meeting on November 28 (Cic. Phil. 3.23; see above). Niccolini (FTP 347; cf. Mommsen, RF 1.75) attributes to him rather than to his brother, the Praetor of this year, the passage of a bill to enable Caesar to add new families to the patriciate (Suet. Iul. 41.1; Tac. Ann. 11.25; Dio 43.47.3). (Broughton MRR II)
    • p. 257-63 (Thommen 1989)
  • Officer (Title Not Preserved)? 43 to 42 (DPRR Team) Expand
    • App. BC 5.7. Following Philippi, and hearing of Antony's attitude of pardoning those rebels who had not been directly involved in the murder of Caesar, Cassius surrendered to Antony while the latter toured to eastern provinces. Cassius was spared. We might suggest that he was an officer during the campaigns of the liberators in the east (DPRR Team)
