GALL2666 M. Gallius (5) Q. f.

Career

  • Officer (Title Not Preserved) 47 (Broughton MRR III) Expand
    • Pr. by 45. Clark restored his name as a praetor in the place of the corrupt reading M. Antonius in Cic. Phil. 3.26, but Sumner has shown that the name needed is that of C. Calvisius C. f. Sabinus (13). Cos. 39 (Phoenix 25, 1971, 265-266, 364). Delete the name of Gallius from the list of praetors in MRR 2.321. He may be identified with the M. Gallius Q. f. who was an officer under Caesar in August 47, bringing troops to Sicily (Cic. Att. 11.20.2) and so had held the praetorship by 45 (Sumner, Phoenix 25, 1971, 366-367, note 55).
