The monetalis Palikanus, whose denarii with a tribune's bench or a curule chair on the reverse are now dated by Crawford (RRC 1.482, no. 473) to 45 (to 47 by others, MRR 2.444), may perhaps be identified with L. Lollius, a governor named on coins of Crete and Cyrenaica about 35 (so E. S. G. Robinson, BMC Catalogue, Cyrenaica, cciii, ccvii, 1141; cf. Grant, FITA 54-58), with more probability than with the senator, - f. Pob. Pallakeinos, whose name is partially preserved in the SC de Panamareis of 39, as suggested by TIC. See below, on M. Quinctius Plancinus (51), and Badian, Gnomon 33, 1961, 496; Historia 12, 1963, 137. He was earlier identified with Palikanus named on an aes coinage issued later than the Augustan reorganization of 23 (see G. Perl, Kho 52, 1970, 319-354, esp. 350; cf. MRR 2.498).
