2 Orelli read the praenomen as Cn., Mommsen as C. (RF 2.434f.) and identified him with the historian. It is improbable that the historian, who was a strong supporter of Caesar, would have served under Bibulus, or that, being an ex-Tribune, he would have taken the title of Legatus pro qaestore. (Broughton MRR II)
Served as a Proquaestor in 50 under Bibulus in Syria (Cic. Fam. 2.17). In RE he is identified, probably erroneously, with Sallust the historian. (Broughton MRR II)
Revise the entry in MRR 2.242 to read "(1A.2 1913 and 1919; Caninius 14)." Münzer (Caninius 14) suggests the cognomen Sallustianus. As he was a proquaestor in 50 he may very well have been quaestor in 51. (TJC) See Syme, Sallust 11, note 20; Wiseman, NM 258, no. 371. (Broughton MRR III)
