QUIN3416 L. Quinctius (52) L. f. Rufus

Status

  • Patrician?

Career

  • Praetor before 31 (Broughton MRR III) Expand
    • Pr., procos., uncertain date. Named in an inscription of Tenos as proconsul (IG 12.5.924, #), he is more likely to have been a governor of Macedonia than of Asia. If he was the L. Quinctius who was tr. pl. in 74, and pr. in 69 or 68 (RE no. 12; MRR 2.103, 138), he could have been governor of Macedonia in 68 or 67 (but see on Rubrius, MRR 2.138, 147, and 150, note 12; and above, on *L. Aurelius). Cicero in 66 implies that he had died (Cluent. 110-113). But the inscription of Tenos may be dated as late as Augustus. See Syme, Historia 4, 1955, 67-68; Wiseman, NM 255, no. 352.
