Leg., envoy 82. After Mithridates' complaints to Sulla and the Senate about Murena's incursions (App. Mith. 65) C. was sent to Murena with a public message not to molest the king. See D. G. Glew, Chiron 11, 1981, 115-117. Wiseman, CQ 14, 1964, 123, suggests that he was either M. Calidius (3). Monetalis, formerly dated to 106, but now by Crawford to 117 or 116, or (more probably) Q. Calidius (5), praetor in 79. A. Keaveney suggests Q. Calidius (5). Pr. 79, as the most probable identification (Klio 65, 1983, 185-186; cf. MRR 2.83, 86), but considers M. Calidius (4). Pr. 57, as possible.
